Essential Gemstones for Travel

I have been collecting gemstones and crystals for almost 7 years now.  My fascination started when I began practicing yoga for my personal well-being.

On one section of the yoga studio, I was so amused with the variety of gemstone jewelries for sale that I wished I could also make and create for myself and as gifts for others. With the synchronicity of events that followed, I saw myself tracking down every crystal show and gemstone expo around Northern California.

Since then each time I travel to different states and explored the cities, I seem to end up finding a little metaphysical store tucked somewhere in a small town I was traversing. It feels like there is an internal GPS leading me to discover them somehow. From then on, I became a collector and a jewelry designer enjoying the new-found interest as a hobby.

Subsequently, I am usually asked which gemstone to work with for a particular dis-ease in the body, among my peers.  I am not a therapist nor a gemologist nor a geologist; in fact, my course of study is in Architecture and Engineering (life has a great sense of humor sometimes). However, with help from my resources, my crystal recommendations validated them.  Their own healing and desired manifestations provided them benefits from the world of crystals as well.

Remember the Pocahontas’ song, Colors of the Wind, “…I know every rock and tree and creature has a life, has a spirit, has a name.”

When I travel (be it just a walk around the corner or a trip to another vacation destination), I carry my “friends” with me all the time. I keep the tumbled stones in its red silk pouch and also wear some from my custom-made jewelries. With the proper intention of protection, safety and calmness for my sake and those I travel alongside with, they assist me in making my journey fun and inspirational!

Here are 12 of my most popular travel gemstones that I never leave home without.  Go and pick up one!  It may assist you in making your trips less challenging and stressful.

  1. What a lovely idea, and a great way to keep those travel memories alive. I had no idea the stones all had so many different meanings, I have a jet necklace and hate public transport so perhaps I should start wearing it on my travels!

    1. Wonderful, I love my Jet! In my escapades, it makes it easy for me to remember my travel highlights when I have a way of relating my stone collections to the places I’ve been 🙂

  2. I don’t have my favourite one, but Jet and Turquoise look fantastic for me! And of course I’ve got some sentiment to Amber as it is popular in my home country – Poland 🙂

    1. You are so lucky with having Amber in Poland! I only have Copal in this part of the world since once exported Amber becomes sooooo expensive.

    1. Jet is one of my favorite stones and easily available. And although it’s blackest black, it is so light to touch and feels very friendly to me.

    1. Thank you. From my experience, when I lose any of my stones, it simply means that their purpose has already been served. A new owner is bound to find them somehow 🙂

    1. More about Turquoise – protects you and your possessions against theft, loss or attack, helps prevent accidents, especially falls, and even guards your pet during travel 🙂 Thanks for your comment.

    1. I would keep both 🙂 While there is an abundance of Amethyst crystals, real Amber are quite more valuable which comes in price and rarity.

    1. Moonstone has a nurturing feel to it. They can easily be recharged with the moonlight especially during full moon. Happy travels!

  3. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE GEMSTONES! NICE LIST OF THEM. MY FAVORITES ARE MEXICAN FIRE OPAL AND WATERMELON TOURAMALINE. I SAW TONS OF RHODOCHROSITE WHEN I WAS IN RUSSIA. MOSTLY ALTARS AND HOME DECOR.

    1. Great combination you have there 🙂 I am still on my adventure of completing all stones as featured in this one book but the 2nd edition is already out…this will be my lifetime pursuit 😀

    1. It’s great when kids start their appreciation with mother earth’s work of art at a young age! Even greater when parents encourage and support them 🙂
